About Lisa
Welcome!
I look forward to sharing my opinions, experiences and answers to the many real estate questions that buyers and sellers often want to know, and that I have learned through 26 years of full-time work in the field. Hopefully this information can help you understand the process, and what you can expect, when you need to dive into the world of real estate.
I became a Realtor 26 years ago, after leaving the corporate world where I found it complicated to get simple things done. Reorganizations, management shifts, egos and politics can really detract from the sense of satisfaction that should come from working hard, doing a job well and in seeing it completed. Real estate for me provides the fast pace, dynamic environment that I thrive in, but also includes the sense of satisfaction and completion that comes from helping people through the delicate process of buying or selling a house. My method is to share, consult and educate so that we work together as a team. My goal is to help you accomplish your goal of buying or selling a home, without a lot of stress and also protecting your financial interests as much as possible.
I purchased my first house in 1989 when there was no such thing as a buyer’s agent or even a “relationship disclosure form” (and I also was not a Realtor yet). It was a horrible experience. Partly because I knew little about houses at the time, partly because I was so terrified, and partly because I had no professional advocate on my side. My Realtor by default worked for the seller (as all Realtors did), but this was not disclosed until the day I decided to make an offer on something. After 3 months of intensive house hunting with someone, it isn’t very comforting to find that the professional you have been spending hours with, talking about your finances, what you can spend and how much you would pay for something tells you “by the way, I don’t work for you, I work for the seller”! After putting the property under agreement, she left on vacation and left me in the hands of her partner who told me I needed an attorney, and then proceeded to refer her husband, but did not disclose that. I might never have known that he did not really have my best interests at heart if he hadn’t made it so obvious by advising me to “just put plastic over it” when I called for his advice and help negotiating a leaky skylight after the home inspection. I felt totally alone in my home buying experience, and blind, by lack of knowledge and by the emotions of fear and frustration.
I bought the house, (and still own it 30 years later!) but at the time I couldn’t help but think “does it really have to be so painful”? I could not get out of my mind how it would have been nice to trust an expert and to have an advocate to point out some of the things I never thought about or made time to question, or negotiate.
So from my first day on the job as a Realtor, these are the thoughts that have driven me with each client that I meet. I want you to know that I have the experience, I can help you navigate, I will give you an honest answer to your questions and I want to help you make the best possible decision for your family and your finances when you buy or sell a house. I want you to feel you are in the hands of a professional, that you can trust, that is helping you reach your goal.
